Capital Region Workforce Center – Goodwill OnestopGo back to portfolio
As part of their grant requirements for the Virginia Workforce Network, one of our clients, Goodwill of Central Virginia, had to produce a website to promote the Capital Region Workforce Center, a service providing jobseekers and employers alike with the opportunity to meet each other’s needs. The Center also provides training and other assistance.
Within the space of one month, the client wanted a fully functioning website advertising their services for both jobseekers and employers. The design requirements were that the site should be easy to navigate, be bright and positive in image and have to be the ability to have its content updated by staff.

The Challenge
The main challenge here was the relatively short timespan in which to build the site. We had one month from notification of the job to the final completion date. In itself, this might sound like a long enough time to create a professional website, and indeed it is, but with the ongoing commitments to other clients and the unavoidable time it takes to monitor traffic and test optimization etc., the task would not have been possible without our excellent project management skills.

The Solution
With such a short time to complete the job, we had to get this project rolling almost straight away, so we set in motion a project management operation that allowed us to accurately plan the progress of the task’s many parts without affecting our ongoing commitments. The visual designers came up with a clean, vibrant look where working activities – city lights, construction workers etc. – were used to good effect. All sections were made available from the top menu so visitors can get to their page fast, where they will be able to find the latest job information updated by the staff using the intuitive CMS. We also gave the Goodwill staff a training course in using the CMS.

The Results
Perhaps the client is the best person to gauge the results. Mark Barth, Chief Information Officer, said: “Koves Technologies captured our messaging and vision and has translated it into a visually appealing, user-friendly Website. A key selling point to us has been that we are now able to control content directly, rather than rely on a third party, resulting in a more dynamic and current look. … Koves was committed to building a Website that met our immediate business objectives, and has fulfilled on that commitment within a short timeframe.”
