Egg Donor WebsiteGo back to portfolio

The Egg Donor Website is part of the Growing Generations umbrella group of services, and gives information to women wishing to donate eggs to aid the fertility of childless people, and also allows those seeking eggs to choose suitable donors to best match their own profiles.

The Egg Donor Website looked and felt reasonable enough, but it simply wasn’t getting enough traffic to justify its existence. The client asked us to perform work on the structure, copy and marketing of the site to regenerate its profile and increase business.

The Challenges

The site was performing so badly that it would have been difficult not to achieve some sort of improvement, but we needed to make the site into a major source of information and inspiration for much larger numbers of potential donors and clients. We found that 96% of the targeted keywords appeared nowhere in the main search engines, and traffic from Google or Yahoo! peaked at 86 per month, a little over 2 a day. There were also issues with session IDs causing multiple duplicate pages, a serious no-no in terms of visibility. Finally, meta descriptions and page titles were either non-existent or so generic as to be worthless.

The Solution

Armed with a list of things that were wrong with the site, the solution was quite simply to fix them one by one. We changed the site structure to remove session IDs, created new titles and meta tags, rewrote the site copy to included targeted keywords, and created an XML sitemap to drive searchers to the most important pages. We also created multiple back-links from other sites and cross-links from within the Growing Generations Network, all to add credibility and profile to the site. As the client strictly wanted an SEO approach, we did not implement a PPC campaign for this site.

The Results

Our improvements resulted in very satisfying results, especially since they were organic. Within three months we caused a threefold increase in Google visitors and a fourfold increase from Yahoo! Several prime keywords and phrases (e.g. “becoming an egg donor” and “egg donor database”) jumped from outside the top 100 to top 5 rankings. As this was organic SEO work, these figures should continue improving with time.
